I have, this day, given instructions to my IT manager, the lovely Bernadette to cut away the ties that bind us to the old Web 1.0 ‘Membership Model’ that served us well enough since 2003. As of 1 September 2011 we will operate via the new, Web 2.0 ‘Amazon Model’. So what does this mean?
First of all we will no longer sell our books at $29.99 and offer tons of free downloads as well as on tap email advice to members. We currently offer free updates for the life of the titles you purchase and that will remain, but the rest goes. Members can still email me and I will always reply however from 1 September those customers buying the books via the new Amazon Model will not get free updates for life nor can I guarantee a reply but i will try my best. The good news is that all of the books have been checked and updated where necessary (they are due a major update next year which will require me having to visit the Philippines, a tough job but someone has to do it). The hardcopy paperbacks will all be available in the new, A5 size instead of the old A4.
Most importantly, the eBooks have been reformatted and are now available as PDF, HTML, Mobi and Epub formats so you can read them on your PC, Mac, handheld device, mobile phone, iPod, iPad, Kindle and Nook and several other eReaders. As well, to retain competitiveness in the new Web 2.0 eBook world that is out there today, we have reduced the price of all titles to $13.99 for eBooks and discounted that to $9.99 on some sites where the royalty share is more generous and so we can still make a few bucks but pass on the saving to the reader. Hardcopy paperbacks will be available for around $14-16 on average.
These are huge savings that we hope will stimulate higher volumes of sales to make up for the lost margin. Not only that, distribution is now handled 100% by mainstream distributors like Amazon Kindle, Barnes&Noble, iTunes and Lulu as well as Smashwords. Recently I was upset to learn the software that handles our distribution and filling of orders was no longer supported by the developers. We have had a few serious problems and delays that resulted in customers being messed about and not getting their book right away or at all (all fixed manually as you read this). The new ‘Amazon Model’ will do away with the perks of the membership Model but it will be streamlined and more efficient and there are more places to buy from should one suffer any hitches.
We have only four affiliates and as soon as I have been brought up to date with how much they are owed I will make arrangements to pay them up and invite them to become Amazon affiliates if they wish so they can continue to sell our titles as well as anything else Amazon offers. I will take this opportunity to thank them for their support to date and hope they understand the necessity in changing the system to this more contemporary model.
Remember, the books are still great albeit newly formatted and revised and soon to be updated where needed and they are now less than half what they once were and available as low as one third of their old price.

StreetWise Philippines Publications has been advised by legal counsel not to comment specifically on the statements and postings of Evan Iliadis; his web sites, blogs, emails or any other form of communication attributed to him. While we appreciate Mr Illiadis suffers from mental illness we can not condone the posting of libelous and defamatory statements by him affecting both our business and personal reputations. He has a documented history of fabricating lies and twisting facts to suit his psychosis as well as other legal cases outstanding against him in the Philippines and possibly other jurisdictions.
While our legal representatives pursue this matter in the Philippines courts in an effort to require his ISP providers and web hosts to remove his offensive material we do extend our genuine sympathies to his wife and her children and family. StreetWise Philippines Publications believe in the rights of those suffering mental illness (and their families) to be respected however we also reserve our right to protect our reputation and business.
